what is the difference between RAT/HOT/STREET Rod???
im pretty sure i know the difference between rat rods cuz they are the rust bucket ones, but what is the differnce between street and hot rod if any?

I don't like to raise any arm hairs getting into this debate, but this is how I see it...
Rat Rods are pre WW2 cars, or well, at least pre '50s cars that have been customized and modified by finding and using parts by the easiest and most affordable means. It's not about making a car to look like junk, or look rusty, it's just about: Hey, I can do it cheaper and better than Mr. Fiberglass, and my car will still kick you in your knees! I think it really takes a special person to love and respect these cars and unfortuantly, today, it seems like ever since this whole Jesse James and Billy Shine stuff is on TV, people think they can paint anything with black primer and call it a rat rod, then you see them selling in the paper as "Rat Rod" for $15,000 - Bah! Or else you go to some website and see any piece of junk with a price of like $1000 more than it should have, because they put in the description that it's a rat rod. (Okay enough ranting)
Hot Rods to me are like.. post WW2 cars (although I think it's acceptable that they are pre WW2 too) to about early 60s. Modified and customized. They can be restored or not... but here is the difference between Street Rod and Hot Rod...
Hot Rodders restore their cars using parts from other cars of that time.... Street Rodders use fiberglass/new parts on their cars.
Body Coddington would be an example of someone who builds Street Rods. (Not my thing, but to each his own)
