The Classic Watch Never Goes Out of Style
One of the particularly pleasing categories of watches available to consumers are those classified as classic watches.
There are two main types of classic watches: pocket watches and wristwatches. These timepieces were created during different eras. Pocket watches were created long before wristwatches, and, for the simple reason of their date of creation, many people find pocket watches to be classic all on their own. Still others contend that pocket watches are not just 'classic' because of their initially time of creation; they are symbols of endless style and elegance.
Despite the fact that wristwatches were made after the original conception of the pocket watch, they too are considered to have classic components. However, this category can be split in twain as well; Classic wristwatches can be classic in the sense that they are vintage or they can be considered classic on account of their ability to express the finest points of technology, mechanics and style from a particular brand or manufacturer. When a person purchases a vintage classic watch, they are typically making an investment in a timepiece that will be enjoyed personally by the consumer. Some people who make these types of investments prefer not to even wear their watches due to the fact that because of their age they may be more fragile. In order to protect their watch and their investment, these individuals may choose to keep their watch on display or to only wear the timepiece during very special occasions.
While many watches are designed in order to tell time, collectors of classic or vintage watches are likely not using these models merely to tell time. Vintage watches are often collected not for the simple function of telling time, but to act as an investment or conversation piece to the owner(s) or collector(s). These types of watches go far beyond their simple functions and capabilities to go on to encompass the entire spirit of an era and watch manufacturer. Nonetheless, this does not mean that people should not or could not wear and comfortably utilize these types of watches. Rather, it means that because these watches are often so rare and hard to find, many people want to protect their investment and money so they have something to show for their efforts in finding and paying for the timepiece(s) of their choice.
Classic watches are often categorized as such after having been created during a specific era, even if they era in question is recent. They are often categorized as such because they mark a specific milestone and period of time for the manufacturing watch company. Classic watches are available to both men and women. Some of the most popular manufacturers of classic watches include Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Omega, Movado, IWC (also known as the International Watch Company), Hamilton, Elgin and Longines.
