How do you weigh a car with only a ruler?

What's the best way to find the mass of a car using only a 12 inch ruler. It's possible.

You need a tire pressure gauge and two pieces of paper too. First, get your tire pressure from each tire and write it down.

Then on each tire, put the pieces of paper under the tire on either side and measure the gap in between the paper. Do this from the sides and from the back/front. Multiply those numbers together to get the area of the tire on the ground.

Example: if you put the two pieces of paper as far under as they'd go from either side and there was 4 inches in between and then you did the same front to back and there was 3 inches in between, the area would be 12 square inches. (Be precise - don't round up. This was just an example)

When you have the area of each tire, multiply each by the tire pressure.

Example:

Tire 1: 16 sq in x 30psi = 480 lbs
Tire 2: 16.5 sq in x 29psi = 478.5 lbs
Tire 3: 15.5 sq in x 31psi = 480.5 lbs
Tire 4: 15.75 sq in x 30psi = 472.5 lbs

Add all the totals together to get the weight of the car. The more accurate you are in measuring the area of each tire, the more accurate your weight total will be.
